THE POWER CORD CHAOS AT YOUR FEET

Just in Time for Earth Day, Here´s a Chance to Win Lunch in Beverly Hills

With Green Advocates Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry

SAN RAMON, Calif. (April 3, 2008) This Earth Day, you have the power.

Actually, you may have too much of it. At least when it comes to external power supplies, those ugly black “wall warts” that come with every electronic device.

With that in mind, Green Plug is holding a novel “What´s Under Your Desk?” photo sweepstakes, just in time for Earth Day 2008, April 22. The company is asking consumers to literally shine a light on the mess of cables that lurks under virtually every desk.

In the spirit of the sweepstakes, first prize is lunch in Beverly Hills with “green advocates” Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry, co-hosts of the VH-1 reality show, “My Fair Brady”. The second place winner will receive a $500 gift certificate to Wal-Mart, while Green Plug will make a $250 donation to the third place winner´s favorite green nonprofit organization. The everyday tangle of cords and cables could be worth the chance to make a real difference this Earth Day green, for a green cause.

“Consider this a case of show and tell,” said Green Plug CEO Frank Paniagua, Jr. “We´re looking for examples of a problem that plagues each and every one of us — that unsightly tangle of wires, black bricks and wall warts that supply your computer, printer, phone, desk lamp” and who knows what else. Just multiply what´s at your feet by millions, that´s how it is that a staggering 379 million discarded and obsolete external power supplies are destined to end up in U.S. landfills this year alone.

The sweepstakes highlights the need for a single, universal power architecture for electronic devices. Such a standard could prevent hundreds of millions of power supplies every year from being tossed into landfills maximizing resources, minimizing solid waste, and conserving energy.

It´s all quite simple: look under your desk and take a snap of what you find there and post it here.  Be sure to write a suitable caption for your picture. Green Plug will randomly select a photo submission from those received and announce the big winner on Earth Day 2008, April 22.

“Subscribe to our feed and keep connected to the Green Plug movement,” Paniagua said. “We´re the first grassroots movement for green tech in the consumer electronics industry. And don´t forget to join our consumer petition appealing to Washington for a universal green power standard.”
